Six Raytown High School girls along with their Math Club sponsors attended Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day at the University of Central Missouri. The girls had an opportunity to attend two workshops on using mathematics in real world settings. The presentations were followed by a problem solving contest, and a luncheon.
At the luncheon there was a panel of women who work in a variety of positions requiring a mathematics background who answered the attendee’s questions. This event is intended to encourage girls to further their study of mathematics in high school and in their post-secondary education. Attending this year were juniors Kasey Cubley, Sally Farrand, Edith Moreno, and sophomores Kelsey Barrett, Miesha Miller, and Melanie Southworth.
