Opportunities to fit your interests and skills

The Raytown YouthFriends program offers several volunteering opportunities.  Look through the menu below and choose one or more activities that appeal to you!

READING PAL
Work with one or two children to help improve reading skills through phonics.  Training, materials and support are provided.
Time commitment: One hour a week during the school year.
Age group: Third grade
Schools: Elementaries

BOOK BUDDY
Read one-on-one with a 1st grade student using books provided by teacher.  Training, materials and support provided.
Time commitment: One hour a week during the school year.
Age group: First grade only
Schools:10 elementary schools

TUTOR
Provide one-to-one tutoring to one or more students.
Time commitment: One hour a week for the school year.
Age group: Kindergarten – high school
Schools: All 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools and the Raytown Success Academy.

CLASSROOM TUTOR
Help one student or a group of students in a classroom with academics.
Time commitment: One hour a week for the school year.
Age group: Kindergarten - 5th grade
Schools: All 10 elementary schools.

MENTOR
Work with one child to develop the self-esteem and confidence necessary to succeed in school. Help provide encouragement, support and friendship.
Time commitment: One hour a week for the school year.
Age group: Kindergarten – 8th grade
Schools: All 10 elementary schools ,3 middle schools, 2 high schools and the Raytown Success Academy.

LUNCH BUDDY
Spend a lunch hour with a student.
Time commitment: One hour a week for the school year.
Age group: Kindergarten – 8th grade
Schools:
All 10 elementary schools and 3 middle schools.

STORYTELLER
The volunteer reads a book to a class. Volunteer and teacher choose book and schedule times.
Time commitment: Once a month during the school year.
Age group: Kindergarten – 3rd grades only.
Schools: All 10 elementary schools.
