You’ve asked for it, so here it is, Bentonville, Arkansas, the birthplace of the largest retailer in the world and the home of a world-class art museum. After lunch, our first stop takes us to Walton’s 5 & 10. Now a museum located in Sam Walton’s original Bentonville variety store, we’ll learn details about Mr. Walton’s story starting with chapter one. You will see many interactive learning tools, videos, and even Sam Walton’s office on display! You can also see Mr. Sam’s trusty old F-150 truck parked in the gallery.
Once back on board the bus, we’ll do a quick view of the Walmart World Headquarters on our way to tour the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art which is the Walton family gift to the city. Its unique bridge-like structure spans a series of ponds formed by the Crystal Spring, thus the name “Crystal Bridges.” Opened in 2011, this is a world-class art destination which features masterpieces from colonial times to the present day. Here you will experience the evolution of American art. The museum hailed as one of the best in the world, and it’s on our tour! This is an absolute “must see” even if you aren’t an art connoisseur.
Our next stop will be the nearby Museum of Native American History. Here we will walk through prehistoric time and get a glimpse into what life was like for America’s first inhabitants. Our last stop will be for dinner in Joplin as we work our way back home.
