History
Eight independent elementary schools consolidated in order to provide the best education for their community in 1903, and more than one hundred eleven years later, Raytown Quality Schools has renewed its vision for quality education during an ever exciting time of growth and change. Staff and parents challenge students to strive to reach their academic and social potential, and the District helps provide the programs they need to succeed. Raytown is a fully accredited district by both state and national standards.
 
Throughout the Raytown community, residents have come to “Expect the Exceptional” in both student and teacher performance, and they continue a strong tradition of community support.  
 
While the focus is on K-12 education, the Raytown C-2 School District has programs that reflect the community’s commitment to education at any age.  From early childhood to adult education, nearly everyone can find a quality program of interest and value.
 
Over the past few years, the April 2014 Refresh bond issue continued the District’s efforts to keep buildings updated and looking like new. The District was able to create a playable varsity stadium at Raytown South High School through seating upgrades and the addition of restroom and concession facilities. Other projects include: fresh paint at most schools, updates to plumbing and wiring in numerous buildings, security upgrades and line of sight entries at all elementary schools and Northwood School, new roofs on many buildings, digital sign boards at all schools, and enhanced technology systems. Bond projects will wrap up in the summer of 2017. 

The Quality Care Clinic and Raytown Schools Wellness Center opened during the 2015-2016 school year. District employees use the Clinic and Wellness Center free of charge. In the past year, the District has saved more than $940,000.

The District’s commitment to keeping students and staff safe can be witnessed through the installation of the Barracuda Intruder Defense system and the use of Raptor, a visitor monitoring system, which checks in visitors to the school by scanning a valid state ID and obtaining a background check almost immediately.

During the 2016-2017 school year, the District will become one of a handful of K-12 school districts in the entire country to send a payload into orbit. High school students are partnering with Interorbital Systems, teachers, administrators, and Raytown community groups to build and launch a low-orbit satellite. Students will develop hands-on experience and skills relating to project management, engineering, programming, HAM Radio Operation, marketing, and photography. The satellite will collect data to enhance Raytown's K-12 STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum.

The District’s 1 to 1 computer program is currently in grades 7 through 10 and will expand to grades 11 through 12 in the next few years. Thanks to a unique partnership with the Raytown Educational Foundation, the class of 2019 will be the first to take their devices with them after graduation. 

One of the hallmarks of the District’s quality is its ability to offer specialized programs designed to meet a variety of student needs.  Herndon Career Center prepares students for immediate employment after graduation or a head start on college hours. Raytown Success Academy ensures that students struggling in conventional classroom situations receive other opportunities for success.  Complete special education services are available to students requiring these programs, with many mainstreamed into the regular classes. Additionally, Northwood School serves students with severe disabilities from the Raytown district. 
 
The District is also known for its quality support systems for teachers both new to the profession and experienced. Extensive staff development with a research base is prevalent throughout the academic areas, and Early Release Professional Development on Wednesdays allows teacher planning and preparation without time out of the classroom and away from students.  Collaboration among educators, parents, and others who live and work in the District boundaries, has created a sense of community, with the common goal being student success.  
 
Raytown has a small town feel with its welcoming and safe environment. Those who have attended Raytown Quality Schools or sent their children to the schools remain its best supporters.
