Curriculum & Instruction
Raytown Quality Schools is committed to providing students with quality instructional programs. The office of Curriculum and Instruction coordinates district activities related to teaching, learning, and professional development.
In Raytown Quality Schools, we define curriculum as the “what”. We determine the “what” by aligning instructional resources to state and national standards. The district curriculum outlines what students are expected to know and be able to do with the support and guidance of our dedicated staff.
Instruction is “how” we do the “what”. The district uses a multi-tiered approach to instruction. This multi-tiered system of support is designed to help students at all readiness levels reach their full potential.
Tiered Instruction
Tier 1
Tier 1 instruction is our “first, best instruction.” It is delivered by our classroom teachers. Tier 1 instruction is centered on grade level standards.
Tier 2
Tier 2 instruction is considered “classroom intervention”. It is delivered by our classroom teachers. Tier 2 instruction is centered on helping students who need more time accessing grade level standards. In younger grades this is often done in a small group setting. In grades 6-12, this is done through a building-wide academic intervention time.
Tier 3
Tier 3 instruction is considered urgent intervention. It is delivered by specialists, such as a Title I teacher or Special Education teacher. Tier 3 instruction is centered on below grade level standards.
