Curriculum

  • The curriculum is designed to promote the development of the whole child- physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills and to encourage problem-solving, independence and cooperation.  The goals and objectives in our curriculum are based on the MO Pre-K standards developed by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.  Copies of standards in the areas of literacy, mathematics, physical development science and social and emotional development are available from the office.Our preschool day includes the following activities.

    Book time
    Utilizing the district adopted Express uses a variety of fiction, non fiction, poetry to teach basic comprenhension and beginning reading skills. 

    Small group
    Teachers are trained in Handwriting Without Tears.  That includes fine motors skills such as cutting, pencil grasp, making upper case letters, then moving to smaller case letters. 

    Centers
    Art, blocks, games, construction, cooking, dramatic play, experimenting, music, painting, sand/water, personal writing, personal reading, listening, and math manipulatives.

    Outside
    Develop motor skills, exploration, socialization.

    End of the day
    Meeting, discussion, and evaluation of the day and organizing materials to go home.

    Snacks
    Snack time is a teaching opportunity.  Snacks may pertain to various topics such as food groups, beginning sounds, dealing with senses, counting, more or less, etc.

    • ALL SNACKS MUST BE STORE BOUGHT AND IN CLOSED CONTAINERS OR BOXES.
