Located on the original Santa Fe Trail, Blue Ridge Elementary opened for the 1948-49 school year, with first through fifth grades. Funding for Blue Ridge came from a 1945 bond issue, one of 18 that voters passed in 18 consecutive years in Raytown. During the 1992-1993 school year, Blue Ridge students attended other elementary schools as a major renovation took place. The fireplace that is in the Blue Ridge office to this day, is a part of the original building.
