Raytown School District Culinary Arts Instructor Selected As Regional Teacher of the Year
Herndon Career Center culinary instructor and Raytown School District Teacher of the Year Chef Mike Chrostowski was selected as a Kansas City Regional Teacher of the Year by the University of Missouri – Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center. He will now represent the Raytown School District in the Missouri Teacher of the Year selection process. Chrostowski was one of six teachers selected for the regional award.
Chef Chrostowski, is a 14-year educator and received his degree from Pittsburgh State University. He just completed his third year as the culinary instructor at Herndon Career Center. He was named as the Raytown School District Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year in May.
Chef Chrostowski led the culinary team to state titles in 2018, 2019, and 2020, a national title in 2018, and national runner-up title in 2019, and the team qualified for nationals in 2020. In the last three years, students on the culinary and management teams have earned a combined total of $2,224,000 in scholarship funds.

He pushes his students to continually learn and achieve beyond their own expectations. He truly wants the best for his students now and in their future!”

My goal every day is to inspire students by teaching them skills that will set them on a successful career path and to make a difference in the world,” Chef Chrostowski said. “I am grateful to be able to work with such an amazing team at Herndon Career Center. I am truly honored and thankful to be selected to represent the Kansas City region, Raytown Quality Schools, and our community.”
In addition to having the opportunity to apply for state teacher of the year award, Chef Chrostowski will receive a full tuition scholarship to Teacher Academy sponsored by the Kansas City Regional Professional Development Center.
