Raytown School District Receives Healthy KC Platinum Certification for Employee Wellness

The Raytown School District has once again received the Platinum certification from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification Program (Healthy KC). Healthy KC, in conjunction with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, recognizes area organizations for innovation and excellence in promoting a culture of health in the workplace. The District also received the Platinum certification in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, the certification was moved to every two years. The next certification will be in 2022.

The workplace wellness certification is based on five ‘pillars’ of health: healthy eating, active living, tobacco cessation, work-life integration, and design-built environment. This year’s certification also focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and how organizations made changes to continue to support a healthy workforce. Platinum certification is the top level of achievement. The District is one of only eight school districts from around the Kansas City area to earn Platinum certification.

“We are once again honored to receive Platinum certification from the Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification Program,” Superintendent of Operations Dr. Steve Shelton, said. “We hope our efforts to improve the quality of life of our staff members through resources provided by the District will result in higher student achievement as well as the retention of high-performing staff members who are healthier and happier.”

The Raytown School District provides each employee, their spouse, and dependents under 18 a free membership to the Raytown Schools Wellness Center. Employees can also take advantage of the Raytown Schools Quality Care Clinic open to only employees and their families. The District also provides employees with wellness information and hosts challenges to motivate employees to make healthy decisions on a regular basis. Since the opening of the Raytown Schools Quality Care Clinic, the District has experienced a return on investment of over $2.6 million, which equates to $1.60 avoided for every $1 spent. Employees have saved an estimated $543,000 in out-of-pocket expenses by utilizing the Clinic.
