A Note from the Superintendent

Posted by Raytown Quality Schools on 9/2/2022

Greetings RQS Community,

The first two weeks of the school year are in the books and what a wonderful start to the year it has been. I’ve had the opportunity to walk to school with students, greet and chat with many of them in the hallways, visit classrooms, watch our exceptional teachers and staff in action, watch student activities, and participate in district, department, and school events.

In addition to meeting with our most prized possessions, our students, it has also been a pleasure meeting many parents and family members of students. I am grateful to each of you for helping to ensure that the transition into the school year was a smooth one.

A top priority of mine is the safety of our students and staff and I ask for your partnership as we continue to make this school year exceptional.

With the expansion of the Parent Responsibility Zone, the number of students walking and bicycling to school and from school has increased. I ask you, families and community members, to please keep constant awareness of your surroundings driving slowly with no distractions. This includes when you enter parking lots where staff are working vigilantly to escort walkers, bus riders and car riders to and from school.

Should you have a question or concern, we want to hear from you. Please refer to this communications protocol to get your questions answered in a timely manner. The document is also available in Spanish.

In the first two weeks of school, I’ve seen those classroom sparks ignite, with bright young smiles, engagement, and readiness. I am beyond excited about the opportunities and possibilities of the 2022-23 school year. With your partnership, we will only continue to make it a great one.

For the children,

Dr. Penelope Martin-Knox
